Today we focused on different web platforms, such as Wix, Weebly, SqaureSpace, Webs, Site123, Snappages and Yola. Some of the home pages designed beautifully while few looked a bit poor and unprofessional. I also looked at some articles regarding the comparison between each website, analysis its benefit for users and downside, however, I should be aware of the author who wrote this article was not paid to say something good. From the review on WebsiteToolTester. It clearly showed the table of comparing on some well-known web platforms, including pricing, comments on pro and contra, you would allow to select the web you would like to compare. Also, it indicated the way to find your preferable website builder, which nicely give people a roughly idea what kind of platform and function they want.

When I was using free trial of SquareSpace, I also found other web builders, like Cindr, Tilda Publishing, and strikingly, using their free template. Because I felt SquareSpace is a bit complicated for me, that’s why I looked at other web builders, however, these three seemed to have similar drawback which you couldn’t open a subpage which cause all information sticking into one whole page, I don’t think that would be an good idea as artwork portfolio, much better to used on selling product, coming workshop or talk, or a home for small business.

Starting to build my web platform, they were nice and got the step by step video for help beginner to make life easier. I started to think about who is my audience and what they would expect to see on my website. I think they could be editorial or publication, even the curator, because so far, I am showing personal works on my website. I see myself as working with magazine and engaging in lifestyle, so when designed the style of web platform, it still stay in the template of portfolio, so I tried to put anything advertise-liked element to see how it went, I don’t like white background , it did look pale and I had seen so many photographers they used white, not saying it was ordinary but I want to be different to get audience’s attraction, so I slightly adjusted the colour as slightly grey but it still look acceptable and not too dark.

Apart from that, I looked through the websites I like, such Pinkoi which designed simple but lovely, which selling products made by designers. Another one I looked was Etsy, similar function as Pinkoi, and the simple design which I feel is much better than Amazon, because I am always struggling looking the right product s and it does feel really massive. Moreover, there are few websites which relevant to product photography which I think its design look high quality and it does convince people the person who work professional.

Nevertheless, SquareSpace could not allow you uploading over 20MB images, so I always resize them before putting on the website. And sometimes it takes ages to wait image upload, which is a bit annoying. I also consider the name of webpage, just I said before, I want to let people get easily remember me, so I am not using my name then adding photography, hide- and-seek came into my head but I feel that’s not right, then thinking what my personality, only one thing I get is I always having trouble get up early, but also going bed quite late, I know it is unhealthy but I still do this, if I don’t have session in the morning, normally I would get up at 11.30 which hardly wake up at usual time. Then popping up night owl and night person, the following one looked odd so I only got night owl, then I search night female on Google, it came through lots of funny one which is definitely not represent me, so I decide to use Night Owl Images as my name of website and domains name.
