BABE (Bristol Artist Book Event) features the work of book publishers and small presses from around the world. Since 2007, BABE has established a great reputation as a relaxed and friendly event to meet and talk to book artists about their work and buy works of art. Hundreds of examples of artists’ books, from small handmade editions to risograph printed zines to repurposed altered books. With more than 100 makers taking part, and prices starting from just a few pounds, there will be something for everyone.

This is the first time that Bath Spa art students to have a stallholder showcasing their works in BABE. As participating in organised team, we run weekly meeting to ensure everything is on track before the deadline of submitting student works. In the first meeting we discussed how could we display our works to catch people’s attention, cashless payment and sorting out a rota. Besides, students were required to send the image to Tom as he would arrange a show reel which visitors could see stallholders’ works.

The value experience to work with different people from various background. You got the chance to look at what others art students are interested in. Before the deadline, I was trying to promote this opportunity to year 3 students, I know most people don’t check their email. Thus, I decided to message them individually and explained that not only books can be shown in this fair but also any physicals like prints and postcards. The fact that people go to a book fair, literally they don’t buy books, they fancy something as gift. People look through your work without touching it, which losing the meaning to go to a book fair. However, Martin told me that the library is going to buy me book and it will be kept in the Library's permanent Artist Book collection, well something extra not from the fair. And I think now I am ready to have a stand in book fair, being confident to talk to people my works.
