Being a sole trader is providing a service individually, you have your flexible working hours and you could work on various projects. However, this enjoyable role could be a risk than you need to consider where to get the next project as well as trying to meet up with people to build your networking. The negotiation itself and can take the form of a face-to-face meeting, an email or phone call but it is important to close a negotiation with an agreement. Repeat back to the client what your understanding of the agreement is, and consider whether you need to create a contract for clarity and protection. Regarding tax record, you need to keep receipts your income and expense every week/month, you could use an accountant to help with your trading year.
“Copyright is legal right that protects the use of your work once your idea has been physically expressed.“(BBC.co.uk, c2019). As long as the work is created, the creator owns its copyright, no matter is a snap shot or high standard photography. In the UK, the period of copyright work such as visual artworks is protected until 70 years after you death. When negotiating with people, you need to make sure their understanding of your right to protect your works and they agree to sign up an exclusive license so the copyright of images remains with you.
Working as a freelancer enables you to be independent and managing the value to gain multiple skills but also need to be well-organised with time arrangement while working in various projects. Being a sole trader, it would need to create a basic plan before business and research on marketing. If I would be working on this role, I need to find my audience and explore other’s values such as looking some examples of how other freelancers find their clients. Maybe freelancer is an ideal job for me because I like to plan everything individually and working independent, at the same time, its flexibility allows me to make use of spare time to learn other things or work in another position.
