Guest Lecture: Robert Darch

Robert Darch is interested in education, photographic practice and experience of places. On this lecture, he shared about his experience of photographic practice how he engaged with the subject and using his observation to photograph a specific place to convey his view as well as building up ideas and narratives.

 Darch is significant influenced by horror films, such as his second project during his MA degree, he took the photos which was more like behind the scene for his friend’s video and created atmosphere, in addition, he is inspired by different elements, for instance, painting, music and lecture, bringing these source to his works. From point of his view, photography is a great medium to capture moment and recording history. Also, he works with young photographers, trying enjoying the process of photographing, building each relation with each other as well as communicating by using photography as a language.

What about I like the most about Robert Darch is his attitude to his works and he always evaluates his images, reflecting his process, also, exploring various area of elements and combining them as much as possible to his photographic works, this is what I learn from him, even some aspects are boring to me, I still ask myself how can I learn from it and try to come up with at least reason. Another reason I learn from his talk is understanding yourself is important, know who you are as well. Because through this process, you know what represent you and get depth into realizing that how it looks like about your own life and personality.
