Guest Lecture - Jyn San
“My work is never just about the hairstyle or make-up. I always consider the overall context.”
A fashion stylist’s responsibilities on a shoot work like this. Firstly, she’ll dream up and moodboard ideas for ‘the look’ of a shoot, then she’ll source or make the outfits and accessories she has decided upon. On the day of the shoot she dresses the models meticulously and then keeps a careful, constant eye out for anything that may need adjusting. In simple terms, anything and everything a model wears is down to the stylist.
Stylist – what client need, think quickly, listening to client, be very flexible.
Involving team – stylist, photographer, location, storyboard, hair and making.
- Be creative doing test, building up strong communication with people.
- Think about details and shoot with laptop. Check everything is right immediately
- Work with different aged – Be able to connect every level.
- Is all about practice, keep taking pictures, things you love inspired you, more develop, more learn about it.
In this lecture is to understand what stylist do and how they work as a team. Also, not only for stylist, I think all artists or designers should care about the details of process, being more sensitive and observing. From my point of view, this might be leading a good effect for team work. I quite like Jyn’s work and she is passion about what she’s doing, even sometime is hard to achieve, such as borrowing items or props at non-seasonal period to create nice environment for shooting advertisement, it is the challenge that a stylist meet every day basically, but you can feel that this question doesn’t reduce her keenness and she enjoys her job very well.
