Welsh photographer Jack Latham was invited to our university and had the lecture talking about his previous projects and his first published book ‘Sugar Paper Theories’.

In Sugar Paper TheoriesLatham’s photographs and material from the original police investigation files stand in for memories real and constructed. Professor Gisli Gudjónsson CBE, a former Reykjavik policeman and forensic psychologist whose expert testimony and theory of memory distrust syndrome helped free the Birmingham Six and Guildford Four – and are now central to the Gudmundor and Geirfinnur inquiry – provides a written account of the case.

First I saw the cover of the book, I thought the background might be a simple event, but I was wrong after listening from Latham’s talk, the details of information were super complicated and mysterious. I didn’t feel uncomfortable, oppositely, I was more excited about what happened next. That’s me, I am the person who is curious on weird things. Unfortunately, that is not the part of my way in the future.

Honestly, I like the layout of the cover, it simply shows photographer’s concepts and clearly describe the events, giving more imagination to viewers how the works might look like, and what photographer focus on. For most photographers who are doing documentary photography, they always question themselves, does the image tell the story and easily connect to audience? How were these people look like in the photograph? Do they engage in photographing? Not only photographer but also artists and designs, they probably need to ask question themselves and reflecting again and again. If you stop questioning yourself, you won’t get into the depth of the subject and develop idea with difficulty.
